Muhammad yunus uk visit: Mohammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh, has received a major diplomatic shock on his visit to Britain. According to media reports, the British Prime Minister Kir Stmper has flatly refused to meet him. British government officials have confirmed that Prime Minister Starmer has no plans to meet Younus. However, he refused to comment more on this.

Yunus is currently on a four -day UK visit and on Wednesday (11 June 2025) he met Britain’s National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell at his hotel. There was a lot of movement and publicity about Younus’s UK tour in Bangladesh’s local media. Several reports claimed that he would meet the British Prime Minister, but Younus himself admitted in an interview to a British newspaper that Starmer had not agreed to meet him.

Fundamentalism and terrorism in Bangladesh
Hundreds of protesters protested outside the Heathro Airport in London and their hotel as Younus arrived in Britain. The protesters had black flags and banners in their hands, which wrote “The killer of the fighters of the Yunus Mukti Sangram”, “Go Back Younus”. The practitioners accused them of promoting fundamentalism and terrorism in Bangladesh. He demanded that Hindu priest Chinmay Krishna Das be released immediately and Yunus should be put in jail.

Shoes and eggs thrown on Yunus’s convoy
According to eyewitnesses, the people involved in the demonstration threw shoes and eggs at the Unus convoy, mostly Awami League supporters and Bangladeshi citizens who were forced to take shelter in Britain after Younus came to power. A 10 Downing Street, House of Comans and the Commonwealth Secretariat were also sent to the UK. The letter appealed to the British government not to recognize the Yunus administration. The letter said that at a time when Bangladesh is going through the economic crisis, political repression and human rights violations, atrocities against women and girls have increased, then any kind of British participation with Yunus can be negatively put on the global priority of democracy and law.
