Scotland Cricket has announced its team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This time Scotland’s entry is considered special, because it has been included in the tournament instead of Bangladesh. After this sudden opportunity, Scotland is now going to prove itself on the big stage.
The responsibility of captaining the team has been entrusted to experienced player Richie Berrington. The board is confident that his experience and leadership will help the young players handle pressure. Scotland has selected a main squad of a total of 15 players, while two players have been kept as traveling reserves and three as non-travelling reserves. So that changes can be made in the team if needed.
Scotland team will play in Group C
This time Scotland has got a place in Group C, where it will face teams like West Indies, England, Italy and Nepal. ICC has fixed the same schedule for Scotland, which was earlier made for Bangladesh. That means the team will play all its league matches on Indian soil.
League matches will be held in Kolkata and Mumbai
Scotland will play its first match against West Indies on 7 February 2026. After this, there will be a clash with Italy on 9th February and England on 14th February. These three matches will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The last match of the group stage will be against Nepal on 17 February at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. These matches will decide whether Scotland will be able to reach the next round or not.
How did Scotland get the World Cup ticket?
The thing to note is that the Scotland team could not make its place for the first T20 World Cup. He had to face defeat against Italy in the European qualifiers. However, the situation changed when Bangladesh refused to play its matches in India. Citing security reasons, Bangladesh had demanded a change of venue, which was not approved by the ICC. After this Bangladesh was thrown out of the tournament and Scotland got a chance.
Now Scotland has a golden opportunity to prove itself. Despite the sudden entry, the team is preparing to enter the T20 World Cup with full confidence.
