The political atmosphere in Bangladesh is becoming unstable and tense these days. Before the parliamentary elections to be held in February 2026, fundamentalist organizations have intensified their activities. Now the target of these groups is not only India, but the religious organization ISKCON has also become. Student organizations associated with Jamaat-e-Islami, Hizbut Tahrir and Hefazat-e-Islam have started protest rallies across the country. These organizations are demanding a ban against ISKCON, accusing it of being an Indian agent.
From the capital Dhaka to Chittagong, workers of these organizations are taking out rallies outside mosques and appealing to the public to eliminate Indian influence. The nature of this campaign is not only religious but also political, because after the ban on Awami League in Bangladesh, the equation of power has completely changed.

Accusations and religious polarization on ISKCON
Leaders of Hifazat-e-Islam Bangladesh in a big meeting held in Chittagong described ISKCON as an extremist Hindutva organization. The rally was presided over by the organization’s central Naib-e-Amir Maulana Ali Usman, who accused ISKCON of spreading unrest in the society. He said that the way action was taken against Awami League due to political crimes. Similarly, ISKCON should also be banned. He argued that peace and communal harmony in the country is possible only when organizations like ISKCON are brought under the ambit of law.

ISKCON, which is an international religious organization based on devotion to Lord Krishna. It has been active in social and cultural activities in Bangladesh for a long time, but now it is being targeted as an organization spreading Indian cultural influence. This controversy is not limited to ISKCON only. This is actually a reflection of the conflict between religion and nationalism in the internal politics of Bangladesh.
