Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus Government Facing Protests from Oposishan DMP imposed sweping ban on all public gathers in Dhaka

Muhammad Yunus on Dhaka: The interim government led by Mohammad Yunus in Bangladesh is facing opposition from opposition parties, civil servants, teachers and army. Nervous by this, the Unisu government has directed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to impose extensive restrictions on all public functions, processions and rallies in the capital Dhaka.

According to The Daily Star report, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Monday (June 9, 2025) has sealed the official residence of Mohammad Yunus Jamuna Guest House Bangladesh Secretariat and surrounding areas indefinitely.

These strict steps have been taken in the Dhaka Secretariat amidst the weeks of protests against the ordinance of the Yunus government of civil servants and officials. According to the government’s ordinance, officers can be dismissed for misconduct within 14 days without any appropriate process. Civil servants called it an illegal black law and demanded immediate cancellation.

These new sanctions on protests in Central Dhaka have been imposed after similar instructions were issued on 10 May, when the Interim government deployed Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and paramilitary forces to protect major government establishments.

Warning of tough movement after 15 June

According to the report of Dhaka -based NewzbD, at present, the intensity of protests may be temporary due to Eid, but civil servants have warned that if their demands are not met by June 15, they will agitate more.

The interim government of Bangladesh, led by Younus, which came to power since 8 August 2024, is struggling with increasing challenges and protests. Yunus has promised to hold independent elections in the country by the first week of April 2026.
