Bangladesh Political Crisis: There is a political upheaval in Bangladesh these days. An emergency meeting was held with advisors amidst the discussion of the resignation of Atmim chief Mohammad Yunus, after which Yunus would remain in the office. Earlier there was a discussion that he could resign due to political and military pressure.

Planning Advisor Wahiduddin Mahmood said on Saturday (May 24, 2025), “Muhammad Yunus has not shown any interest in leaving his post. The Chief Advisor will be with us. He did not say that he will resign and likewise all other advisors will continue their work. We are due to the responsibilities given here.”

Mohammad Yunus called a meeting

Earlier, Mohammad Yunus, the head of the interim government of Bangladesh, on Saturday convened a meeting of the Advisory Council to review the increasing discomfort between his administration, political parties and the army. A few hours before this, Younus expressed his desire to step down from the post of Chief Advisor. He cited the difficulties in working due to the lack of consensus among political parties about the change.

News agency ‘UNB’ quoted sources as saying that Younus will currently hold a meeting with advisors (actually ministers) soon after the meeting of ECNEC (Executive Committee of National Economic Council). ” Younus is expected to meet advisors before constant meetings with former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami on Saturday. According to the press branch of the Chief Advisor, the BNP delegation will meet the Chief Advisor at seven in the evening, while the leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami will meet at eight o’clock in the night.

Mohammad Yunus has expressed his desire to resign

Yunus on Thursday night told the leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) led by the students that they are considering resigning, as they feel that the situation is ‘such is such that he cannot work.’ Earlier, he had allegedly expressed his desire to resign in the cabinet meeting held in the day.
