India Bangladesh News: Amid increasing tension with India, Ashik Chaudhary, president of the Bangladesh Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), said that there is no economy zone in India in Mirsarai in Chittagong district. He said that such initiatives are present only on paper. However, earlier Bangladesh welcomed India’s investment in Mirsarai. In the year 2020, India approved a $ 115 million loan to construct a infrastructure on 900 acres of land in Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial City.

Bangladesh’s statement about this project of India

Bida president Ashik Chaudhary said, “If we look at the main plan of Mirsarai Economy Zone, this plan was for 33,000 acres. We have reduced it to 10,000 to 15,000 acres in the first phase. We do not need so much land. We can consider the remaining land in two or three phases.”

He said, “The Indian economy zone is written here only on paper. It was part of the main plan, but no important work was done on it.” He said that there has been no development on this project since the Atmim government of Mohammad Yunus came to power in August last year (2024).

Bangladesh killed an ax on its own feet

Aashiq Chaudhary said that this project is in a position to be completely postponed. He said, “Chittagong port is the port of Bangladesh. We are saying that it is also very important for South Asia, even the northeastern states of India, Nepal and Bhutan.

Earlier this year, after the comment from Mohammad Yunus about the northeast states in front of China, the relationship between India-Bangladesh has increased. India recently banned Indian Land Ports for many items in Bangladesh. India has banned the import of many items including readymade garments, carbonated drinks, snacks, cotton and cotton threads from Bangladesh through roadways. Earlier, Bangladesh had banned the import of thread from the ground routes from India.
