The situation in Bangladesh remains tense and its bilateral relations with India are also at stake. In the recent past, many incidents of targeting the Indian Embassy in Bangladesh and raising anti-India slogans have come to light. Along with this, there is a lot of resentment in India over the continuous violence against minorities. Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigorievich Khozin appealed to end the tension between the two countries.
Russia’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Grigoryevich Khozin on Monday (December 22, 2025) appealed to Bangladesh to reduce tension so that a good environment can be created before the national elections to be held on February 12 next year. Along with this, he also stressed the importance of reducing tension with India. The Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh said that the sooner it happens, the better.
He said that he is not interfering in the mutual relations between the two countries, but he feels that it would be wise to find a way so that the tension does not increase beyond the current level. Relationships should be based on mutual trust and confidence. Regarding the elections to be held in Bangladesh on 12 February 2026, he has expressed hope that voting will take place on time. Regarding sending election observers, the Ambassador said that they are in touch with the Election Commission and they are waiting for an official invitation from the Commission.
Regarding the situation in Bangladesh, former minister Mohibul Hasan Choudhary said, ‘The situation in Bangladesh is very tense, especially in the capital Dhaka and our second city Chittagong, because it is getting the protection of the ruling government. They are helping or instigating some extremist parties and organizations to come out and spread anarchy every day. Therefore, the situation remains quite unstable as elections are approaching.
He said that it seems that they at least want to postpone the election schedule and want to retain their power. Keeping this in mind, they are continuing their movement. They have some YouTubers and people who come on online platforms to instigate people, who are constantly being asked to instigate people. Apart from this, they also have some extremist political parties like Hizb ut-Tahrir and Jamaat-e-Islami student organization Shibir. Therefore, they are continuously using these resources to create social instability in the country.
Regarding the anti-India activities that have been seen there in the last few days, Mohibul Hasan Chaudhary said, ‘Anti-India protests are limited only to some parts of Dhaka and Chittagong. It is not that there is anti-India sentiment in the entire country. Some of the militant, extremist, fundamentalist students of different institutions have forced many madrassa students to join them. These include students of Qaumi Madrasa and Dhaka University itself. Madrassa students who live inside the campus depend on the madrassa for food and shelter. If they are forced to join these processions, they have no choice. If they do not do so, they will lose their only shelter, food and shelter.
