Bangladesh has clearly announced that it will boycott the 2026 T20 World Cup. With this, he has messed up not only the International Cricket Council (ICC) but also the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Actually, ICC had rejected Bangladesh’s demand to change the venue, after which Bangladesh says that ICC has not done justice to it.

Bangladesh government’s sports advisor Asif Nazrul has been giving provocative statements since the beginning of this controversy. Now he says that he will not bow down under any circumstances. Nazrul said that if Bangladesh does not play the T20 World Cup, then the world should understand what its consequences could be. He said that Bangladesh will not compromise on the safety of its players under any circumstances.

On one hand Bangladesh kept saying that its players are in danger in India. Whereas the ICC had given assurance that it has assessed the security of the matches in India and there will be no threat to the safety of Bangladeshi players if they travel to India. Despite this, the statement of Bangladesh government boycotting the T20 World Cup is really shocking. But it seems that Bangladesh has forgotten how much BCCI had helped in taking Bangladesh cricket to a bigger level.

Bangladesh turned out to be ungrateful

This is from the year 1998, till then Bangladesh could not get full membership of ICC. No one even considered Bangladesh in world cricket, but the then ICC President Jagmohan Dalmiya took a big risk and handed over the hosting of the ICC Knockout Tournament to Bangladesh. Let us tell you that Dalmiya has also been the former President of BCCI.

The winner of that tournament was South Africa, who won an ICC trophy for the first time. But Bangladesh cricket had a bigger victory than South Africa, because by successfully hosting an ICC tournament, Bangladesh got a different identity in world cricket. Even Jagmohan Dalmiya had openly supported giving Test team status to Bangladesh.

Now that the ICC has given a verdict in favor of India after a complete assessment of the security arrangements, Bangladesh is very upset. In this frustration, he has forgotten the old favors and decided to boycott the T20 World Cup.
