Under-19 World Cup 2026 has also come into discussion due to the no handshake controversy. On January 17, the match between India and Bangladesh was played, in which the captains of both the teams did not shake hands with each other. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has issued a statement on this. BCB says that the incident of not shaking hands with the opposition team i.e. Indian captain happened unintentionally.
BCB gave clarification
BCB issued a statement saying that the regular captain of Bangladesh Under-19 team, Azizul Hakim could not come to the field at the time of toss due to illness. In his place, vice-captain Jawad Abrar took the responsibility of the toss. BCB tried to clarify that the incident of not shaking hands with the opposition captain (India) was unintentional. The Bangladesh Cricket Board also said that it had no intention of showing disrespect towards the Indian team.
BCB says that it is taking this matter seriously and maintaining the spirit of the game, having respect for the opposition team and players is the basic principle of Bangladesh. Bangladesh Cricket Board has reminded its players to understand the responsibility of maintaining the spirit of the game.
What happened on the field?
On January 17, the match between India and Bangladesh took place in the Under-19 World Cup. Since it was raining lightly, the toss was delayed. When the captains of both the teams came for the toss, no one shook hands with each other. Bangladesh won the toss and chose bowling. Even after that there was no handshake between the two captains and both the players went straight towards their respective dressing rooms. There is a huge uproar over this entire incident.
