Barack Obama praises Harvard University Stand: Former US President Barack Obama said on Tuesday (April 15, 2025) that Harvard University has set an example by rejecting the demand of President Donald Trump administration to control the campus.

Harvard President Alan Garber said on Monday (April 14, 2025) that he would not bow down to the demands of the government. The Trump administration had asked for widespread government and leadership reforms to the oldest university in the US and to make changes in its entry policies.

Obama wrote on X, “Harvard has set up an example for other higher education institutions – rejecting the illegal and virtuous effort to suppress academic freedom, has taken concrete steps to ensure that all the students of Harvard can benefit from the environment of intellectual investigation, intensive debate and mutual honor. Let’s expect other institutions to follow it.”

What is the matter?

In fact, Donald Trump wrote a letter to Harvard demanding that the university should audit views on diversity and stop recognizing some students clubs. Subsequently, Harvard University President Alan Garber wrote to the Harvard community in an open letter, “No government – no matter what party is in power – can decide what private universities can teach, who can give admission and who can hire and in which field they can study and check.”

Donald Trump took action

After Harvard dismissed the demands, the US government announced that it would stop a grant of more than $ 2.2 billion and $ 60 million to be given to the university. Earlier, Columbia University was targeted with similar demands from the Trip Administration, which was accepted by the institute.
