National President of All India Muslim Jamaat, Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi has expressed a strong reaction to the alleged objectionable statement given by Bageshwar Dham’s Peethadhishwar Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri regarding Islam religion. He said that no religious leader should use abusive language against other religions and it is mandatory for everyone to follow religious decorum.

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi said that Pandit Dhirendra Shastri is a religious person and we respect him as a religious leader, but the comments and mockery made on the religion of Islam and its principles—such as Nikah, divorce and marriage—cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The religion of Islam does not allow speaking against any other religion, which is why Muslims do not object to any religion or its religious activities.

‘Dhirendra Shastri has been targeting Muslims’

He alleged that Pandit Dhirendra Shastri had been targeting Muslims earlier also. Sometimes threats were made using words like “those with caps should reform” and now the religion of Islam is being directly attacked. He said that crores of Muslims of India are hurt by such comments.

‘Muslims cannot tolerate attacks on religion’

Maulana said that history is witness to the fact that whenever an attempt was made to suppress Islam, it has emerged stronger. A Muslim can tolerate personal objections, but cannot tolerate attacks on religion. He also said that such statements are against the decision of the Supreme Court, in which such comments have been considered in the category of hate speech.

What is the whole controversy?

In fact, during a program organized in Banda, Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri had reportedly said, “There is another religion, Hariullah Wala, in which divorce is done after uttering it thrice. Here, it does not happen even in 20-25 meetings. Hindus should note one thing, India will not become a Hindu nation by abusing Muslims. Hindus will have to correct their evil practices, only then India will become a Hindu nation.”

He further allegedly said, “At their place, we have to cut, wherever we look, we have to cut, God forbid, we don’t have to say anything, otherwise there will be a riot.” Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi has demanded that to maintain religious harmony, such statements should be banned and the responsible people should exercise restraint while speaking from public forums.
