BCCI Family Rule: The Indian team has suffered a setback amid the 2026 T20 World Cup. BCCI, sticking to one of its controversial policies, has rejected the demand of Indian players. In fact, according to some media reports, Team India, captained by Suryakumar Yadav, had demanded before the BCCI that the players should be given such permission so that they can keep their family members along during the T20 World Cup 2026. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has rejected this demand of the players.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the team management had sought clarification on whether the wife or fiancee or girlfriend could be accompanied during the World Cup tournament. But BCCI has directly rejected this demand. However, no official statement has been issued by BCCI in this regard. According to sources, BCCI says that wives or fiancees cannot stay with the players, but if they (players) wish, they can make separate arrangements.
Why was permission not given?
In the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indian team had to face a big defeat of 1-3 at the hands of Australia. After that, BCCI implemented a policy under which the families of the players will be allowed to stay with them only for 14 days, that too when Team India’s foreign tour is 45 days or more. T20 World Cup 2026 does not meet this limit and it is being organized in India only.
The good thing is that the Indian team easily won its first match in the T20 World Cup 2026. They defeated USA by 29 runs. Now Team India’s second match will be with Namibia on 12th February. At the same time, Pakistan has withdrawn its decision of boycott, due to which now the India-Pakistan match on 15th February has also been confirmed.
