Mohammed Shami may return to the Indian team very soon. At present, Shami is continuously making waves in Indian domestic cricket. Vijay is performing well in Hazare Trophy, before that he has also performed well in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy. A media report has revealed that BCCI is keeping a close watch on Shami’s domestic performance.
According to a report published in NDTV, a BCCI official said that the board is keeping an eye on Shami’s domestic performance and now the chances of his return seem to be increasing.
Mohammed Shami will play 2027 ODI World Cup!
It was told in the report that Mohammed Shami’s name is being discussed regularly in BCCI and he is not out of the race yet. The concern remains only about his fitness. The source said, “A bowler of his caliber will definitely take wickets. It would be wrong to say that he is out of the race for selection in the team. He seems to be in a good position for selection in the series against New Zealand. Given his experience and wicket-taking ability, his selection in the team will not be surprising. His selection in the 2027 World Cup is also completely possible.”
Mohammed Shami played the last match for Team India in the Champions Trophy 2025. Shami was the highest wicket taker for India in the Champions Trophy. He and Varun Chakraborty took 9 wickets in the tournament. Despite this, Shami has not been able to play any match for Team India after that. He has taken 17 wickets in the last 6 matches including Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
There has been a lot of controversy regarding Shami in the last few months. In fact, after being dropped from the series against Australia, he had said in the statement that it is not his job to give information about fitness to the selectors. On the other hand, Team India’s Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had also reacted to this and said that if Shami had been fit, he would have definitely got a chance to go on the England tour.
