ICC Replacement Rules (ICC REPLECEMENMENT RULE) came into the discussion in the last 2 matches of the India vs England Test series. In the fourth Test, there was a demand for change in replacement rules due to injury of Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes in the final match. Now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big step to get rid of this problem. Actually, new replacement rules will be implemented from the upcoming Indian domestic season, in which major changes have been made.
BCCI brought new replacement rules
The BCCI will implement the new rule in the red-ball matches from the 2025-26 domestic season. According to the new rule, like-for-license will be allowed to be brought for the seriously injured player. This rule matches the Consideration Substitute Rules of ICC. Some new rules have also been brought to the player who deliberately taking short runs and retired hurt.
A seminar of umpires is going on in Ahmedabad, in which the news of the implementation of the new rule has been given to the umpires. The board also made it clear that this rule will not be used in other white ball tournaments including Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. It will be interesting to see whether this replacement rule is brought for IPL 2026, but a new replacement rule will also be implemented in the Under-19 CK Naidu Trophy, which is to be played in the red-ball format.
Understand rules in detail
Now only like for like replacement will be allowed. The list of players will be given before the toss, the player coming through the replacement should be from the same list.
-Only after consulting doctors and umpires will give the match referee verdict whether replacement can be made or not.
If there is no reserve wicketkeeper in the team, then the wicketkeeper player’s replacement toss can also be a player outside the list.
-The match will be added to the career records of the player who came as a chotil and as a replacement.
