When the Indian cricket team practiced on the ICC Cricket Academy on Monday evening before the Asia Cup, Sanju Samson first came to do wicketkeeping practice alone with Fielding Coach T Dileep while the rest were reaching slowly at that time.
Samson was practicing with full concentration and he was also praised for catching a catch by putting a full dive on his right. Head coach Gautam Gambhir then reached him and kept talking to this wicketkeeper batsman from Kerala for three minutes.
It seemed that he was talking about his batting more than wicketkeeping. If the gesture is considered a sign, then Jitesh Sharma looked confident after getting out of the club house. RCB wicketkeeper practiced batting in turn with Shivam Dubey, Tilak Verma and Hardik Pandya.
When all four were batting, Samson reached the field wearing a batting gear but after some time the dressing room in a corner sat behind the tree near the club house.
Vice -captain Shubman Gill, Captain Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma performed batting two or three times in turn but Samson was not called even once.
Later he came to the nets but did not bat and sat on the ice box. Finally, when everyone was practiced, Samson reached the nets and the net bowler bowled him.
Rinku Singh did not even wear a pad, indicating that he might not be part of the playing XI. Finally, when the practice session was about to end, he came wearing a pad and played the throwdown by the support staff.
Gambhir’s focus is on the depth of batting and batting on all -rounder, so Jitesh can get preference as a finisher.
