Bengal Teachers Recruitment Scam Supreme Court Allows Teachers to Work Till December in Ongoing Session

In its order regarding the West Bengal Teacher Recruitment Scam case, the Supreme Court has given some concession. Based on the continuation of the academic session, teachers from 9th to 12th have been allowed to maintain some time. The court has made it clear that no relief will be given to Group C and D employees.

The bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna has placed a condition in its order that the state government should remove the advertisement for new recruitment by 31 May. The new appointments should be completed by 31 December. The court has said that if this is not done, it will see it strictly.

In the judgment given on April 3, 2025, the Supreme Court canceled the appointment of more than 25000 teachers and school staff of West Bengal. Now on the request of the state government, citing the loss of students’ education, teachers have been allowed to work at the moment.

In 2016, more than 23 lakh people took the exam for recruitment through West Bengal School Service Commission. Out of these, more than 25 thousand people got jobs. There was a large allegation of corruption in this. The Supreme Court had also said in its judgment that the entire appointment process in 2016 was filled with manipulations and deception.
