Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to India was scheduled to take place later this year, but the horrific terrorist attack in Delhi pushed this program back once again. After almost 10 years, such a big attack took place in the capital, in which more than fifteen people lost their lives and many were injured. This incident not only raised questions on India’s security system, but also increased concern at the international level. Israeli news platform i24NEWS, quoting sources, said that now Netanyahu will set a new date only when his security agencies declare the current conditions in India completely safe.
Israel usually adopts very strict security standards for foreign trips of its top leaders. In such a situation, this attack in Delhi was not just a local incident; It also influenced the global security outlook. It is being told that in view of the seriousness of the attack, Israeli intelligence has started re-evaluating all future visits of the Prime Minister. Due to this review, it was decided to postpone the visit to India with immediate effect.
What issues could have been discussed
During this visit, major agreements were expected between the two countries in areas like defense cooperation, agricultural technology, cyber security and water management, but now these talks will be put on hold until the new itinerary is decided. Both the countries have made it clear that it is not canceled but only postponed. This means that India-Israel relations will continue to move forward at their own pace, but the timing of the journey will depend on the security situation.
Why has this tour been postponed twice before?
This is not the first time that Netanyahu’s visit to India has been postponed. This is the third time within the year 2025 that the program had to be changed. Firstly, elections were announced in Israel in April and due to domestic political circumstances the trip had to be cancelled. Israel usually stops the foreign trips of its top leaders during election time, so that the entire focus remains on the country’s politics and administration. The visit could not take place again in September because elections were declared again. The electoral environment and constantly changing situations limited foreign policy programmes. In view of political uncertainty and security challenges, foreign trips were kept on the back burner.
Now, for the third time, the visit to India went ahead because a major security threat had emerged in Delhi. This makes it clear that no matter how important Netanyahu’s visit is, Israel is in no mood to compromise on its security under any circumstances. Until the security agencies consider the situation completely safe, we will have to wait for the new date.
Netanyahu’s message and direction of relations after the blast
After the Delhi blasts, Netanyahu expressed deep condolences and gave a message of standing with India. He wrote on social media that India and Israel are two ancient civilizations, which stand on shared values and strong cultural foundation. His statement shows the depth of strategic relations between the two countries. He said that terror can hurt the cities, but it cannot shake the courage of both the countries. Cooperation between India and Israel in defence, agriculture, water technology, cyber security and artificial intelligence is increasing rapidly. Netanyahu’s visit to India was considered to be a step to give new heights to this cooperation, but the current global situation, tension in West Asia, increasing terrorist attacks and internal political challenges created many obstacles regarding this visit.
