This news shocked everyone as to why Rizwan was suddenly removed from the captaincy. Now a report has revealed that performance is not the reason behind snatching the captaincy from Rizwan. Rather, its connections are linked to betting companies.
The reason for snatching the captaincy from Mohammad Rizwan has been revealed in the report of Times of India. According to the report, when Rizwan refused to promote betting companies, PCB removed him from the captaincy. PCB wanted Rizwan to promote these companies, but Rizwan stuck to his principles and refused to do so.

This was confirmed in the report quoting a PCB source. The source said, “Mohammad Rizwan had told the Pakistan Cricket Board that he would not promote these betting companies, which was the main reason for his removal from the captaincy. He was against the cooperation between betting companies and PCB.”
However, when PCB announced the selection of Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain before the ODI series against South Africa, they did not give the reason for the removal of Rizwan, even his name was not mentioned.
“At a meeting of the selection committee, which also included Pakistan’s limited overs head coach Mike Hesson, it was decided to appoint Shaheen as the captain of Pakistan’s ODI team against South Africa,” the PCB said in its statement.
Mohammad Rizwan is a staunch Muslim
This is not the first time that Rizwan has taken such a decision. This year itself, while playing in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League), he had refused to wear the jersey of the team (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots) which had the ‘logo’ of the betting company on it, even though it was the main sponsor of the team. Rizwan never even shakes hands with female fans, it is because he follows the principles of Islam that he refuses to promote these companies.
