In a dramatic and bizarre developments, the Champion Indian team was not awarded the Asia Cup Trophy as it refused to take it to Pakistan Minister and ACC President Mohsin Naqvi. In the Asia Cup final, on Sunday, the arch -rivals Pakistan got a lot of dramatic developments after a thrilling five wickets.
The award distribution ceremony started with great delay but only individual awards were given. The Indian team refused to take the trophy from Naqvi but Naqvi stayed on the stage. Finally, the winning team was not given a trophy and this may have happened for the first time on the cricket field.
Despite the delay, many of India’s fans stayed in the field and when Pakistani captain Salman Ali Aga started going on stage, he had a lot of hooting. The Indian team was ready to take the trophy from Khalid Al Jaruni, vice -president of the Emirates Cricket Board who was on stage with Naqvi but Naqvi did not allow this to happen.
Naqvi was standing on one side before the prize distribution ceremony began and the Indian players were within 15 yards. Naqvi stayed in her place, which delayed the ceremony.
It is believed that the Indian team management asked who would give the winner’s trophy and the Asian Cricket Council started mutual advice because it knew that the Indian team would not want to take the trophy from Naqvi.
