GST on Printing Paper: Recently, after the GST reform, it has now been reduced to two slabs at the first four slabs, which will be effective from 22 September. After this, the prices of most things will be reduced. But the decision of GST Council may increase the price of books. The special reason for this is that GST rates on paper on which books are printed have increased from 12 percent to 18 percent.
Books can be expensive
According to the publishers of the book, the direct burden of this move of the government is going to fall on the pocket of the students because the prices of the book are going to be expensive now. However, in protest against this move of the government, the businessmen of the book have written their concerns to the government by writing letters.
In the GST Council meeting, on one hand, the GST has been completely abolished on stationery like maps, notebooks, rubber, register, pencil and drawing. GST was earlier charged on these goods at the rate of 12 percent.
But, on the papers on which the book is printed, GST rates have been increased from 12 percent to 18 percent. After this it is believed that books will become expensive after printing.
Educational federation raised the issue
According to the Indian Educational Federation, the textbooks will not be able to be cheap as per the efforts of the government because there are discrepancies in GST slab, due to which their prices may increase. According to the federation President Gopal Sharma and General Secretary Rajesh Gupta, stationery and practice books have definitely been given relief in GST, but those books have been kept in high slabs, which will be used for textbooks.
According to the people of the publication world, only 60 to 70 percent of the cost of any textbook is spent on paper. In such a situation, if the cost of printing increases, then the price of books will also increase.
