The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Tapan Pramanik, an absconding accused in the famous chit fund scam of Tripura. Tapan, the accused in the case, was absconding for the last 14 years. The court had already declared him a fugitive.
CBI had registered this case on October 8, 2013. The investigation of this scam was started on the basis of the notification issued by the Government of Tripura and the Government of India.
What is the allegation against Tapan Pramanik?
The allegation in this case is that Tapan Pramanik, M/s MPS Agro-Animal Projects Ltd. Was the director of a company named. His company and its agents had collected an amount of around Rs 3 to 4 crore by luring people in the name of investment. Later, all this money was embezzled and was not returned to the investors.
Court had issued warrant after continuously absconding from investigation
After the complete investigation of the scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed the first charge sheet on October 13, 2015. After this, on May 31, 2019, the agency filed a supplementary charge sheet. During this period, Tapan did not participate in the authentic investigation and remained absconding.
The court issued an arrest warrant against the accused Tapan, but he continued to remain out of the reach of the investigating agency. Finally, on January 16, 2023, the court formally declared Tapan Pramanik as a fugitive criminal as the main accused in the chit fund scam.
Chit fund scam accused arrested from West Bengal
CBI made continuous efforts to arrest the accused. The team went to the field and did the verification. Call detail records of his contacts were scrutinized and physical surveillance was also done. Ultimately, on the basis of this tracking, CBI arrested the accused from Nadia district of West Bengal.
Will be taken to Tripura after getting transit warrant
The arrested Tapan Pramanik will be produced in the Nadia district court, from where after taking a transit warrant, he will be taken to the special court of Tripura for further action. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
