The T20 World Cup controversy has started taking a serious turn, because Bangladeshi cricketers will have to suffer losses due to the stubbornness of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). According to media reports, Indian cricket equipment manufacturing company SG is going to terminate contracts with many prominent Bangladeshi cricketers.
According to NDTV, an ICC source said that amidst increasing tension between India and Bangladesh, Indian cricket equipment manufacturer SG has decided to terminate the contracts with many Bangladeshi cricketers including Liton Das.
Another big blow for Bangladesh is that another Indian sports company, Sarin Sports, has decided not to distribute its products in Bangladesh. Due to these decisions, Bangladeshi cricketers may have to suffer huge financial losses. Cricketers earn huge income in a year through endorsement deals, but SG’s decision may cause huge loss to Bangladeshi cricketers.
This is the second big blow for BCB in a few hours. ICC has given an ultimatum to Bangladesh Cricket Board that it will have to play its T20 World Cup matches in India only. The International Cricket Council says that if Bangladesh agrees to this, then it should give its final decision by January 21, otherwise Scotland will be included in the World Cup instead. If Bangladesh is out, Scotland will get entry into the T20 World Cup on the basis of ranking.
According to the schedule of T20 World Cup 2026, Bangladesh is in Group C. He has to play his first match with West Indies on 7 February. According to the current schedule, Bangladesh has to play its World Cup matches in Mumbai and Kolkata. BCB had earlier refused to send its team to India for the World Cup, but according to reports, ICC has rejected this demand.
