Before the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, a worrying news has emerged for the Indian cricket team. The team’s young and reliable batsman Tilak Verma is in trouble due to injury. His injury is considered so serious that it has become doubtful for him to play in the T20 series against New Zealand. Not only this, if recovery is not done on time, questions may also be raised on his presence in the World Cup.
Suddenly his health deteriorated, Tilak was taken to the hospital
Tilak Verma was present in Rajkot to play Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to Indian Express reports, he felt severe stomach pain after breakfast on Wednesday morning. Initially it was considered a normal problem, but when the pain increased, he contacted the doctors of BCCI’s Center of Excellence. On the advice of doctors, Tilak was immediately taken to the hospital, where many important scans were done. After medical examination, it was revealed that Tilak had a serious abdominal injury. After this all the reports were sent to the BCCI medical team based in Bengaluru.
Surgery advised, rest may be long
According to initial reports of doctors, Tilak Verma may need to undergo surgery. If surgery is done, it will take about three to four weeks for him to become completely fit. In such a situation, it is considered almost impossible for him to play in the initial matches of the five-match T20 series against New Zealand starting from January 21. The team management is very upset with this news, because Tilak has become an important part of the T20 team in recent times.
Concern increased before T20 World Cup
Team India’s biggest concern now is regarding the T20 World Cup, which is to start from 7th February. However, it is a matter of relief that India’s first match is against America, which is considered relatively easy. Even if Tilak is not fit for the first match, the team will not suffer a big blow. However, if his recovery is delayed, it may affect India’s plans.
eye on replacement
In view of the absence of Tilak Verma, the team management is considering options. It is believed that if needed, a senior player like Shubman Gill can be included in the T20 team. However, no official decision has been taken on this yet.
