JDU MLA from Mokama and strong leader Anant Singh was allowed by the MP-MLA court to vote in the Rajya Sabha elections. Anant Singh, lodged in Patna’s Beur jail in the Dularchand Yadav murder case, reached the assembly after 10 am under police surveillance under tight security and cast his vote and after voting returned to jail again. Anant Singh’s one vote in the Rajya Sabha elections is also important for the NDA, because three additional votes are needed to ensure the victory of the fifth NDA candidate.
How has been Anant Singh’s political career so far?
Anant Singh is considered an influential and domineering leader of Mokama region of Bihar. He was elected MLA from Mokama assembly seat for the first time in the year 2005 and won again in the year 2010.
At that time he was associated with Nitish Kumar led JDU and gained a strong political hold in the area. After differences with the party before the 2015 assembly elections, he contested the elections as an independent candidate and again won the Mokama seat. In 2019, his name surfaced in a case of possession of illegal weapons and explosives, after which he was arrested and remained in jail for a long time. In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, his wife Neelam won from Mokama seat.
