For the first time after Operation Sindoor, Sikh devotees crossed the Attari-Wagah border today on the occasion of Guru Nanak Prakash Parv. Around 2,100 Sikh pilgrims from India entered Pakistan through Wagah border on Tuesday (November 4, 2025). These pilgrims have gone to participate in the programs related to the 556th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

Chairman of Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Punjab Minority Affairs Minister Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chief Sajid Mehmood Chauhan and Additional Secretary (Religious Places) Nasir Mushtaq welcomed the Indian pilgrims at the Wagah check post.

Visa issued to 2,150 Indian Sikhs

Those who reached Pakistan include Akal Takht leader Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, Bibi Gurinder Kaur of Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee and Ravinder Singh Sweeta of Delhi Gurdwara Management Committee. The Pakistan government had issued visas to 2,150 Indian Sikhs to attend the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.

ETPB spokesperson Ghulam Mohiuddin said that about 2,100 Sikhs reached Lahore via Wagah on Tuesday. After completing the immigration and customs formalities, the pilgrims left for Gurdwara Janmasthan, Nankana Sahib in special buses, he said. The main celebration of Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary will be held on Wednesday (5 November 2025) at Gurdwara Janmasthan, which is about 80 kilometers from Lahore.

Kartarpur Sahib decorated

Nasir Mushtaq said, “All the Gurudwaras including the birthplace and Kartarpur Sahib have been beautifully decorated with lights. For medical assistance, teams of Rescue 1122 and medical unit of ETPB will accompany the pilgrims. Foolproof security arrangements have been made at all entry points and surrounding areas, he said.

“Rangers, police, special forces and ETPB’s own security wing have been deployed for the security of the pilgrims,” ​​Mushtaq said. During his 10-day stay, the Indian Sikhs will also visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib Hasan Abdal, Gurdwara Sacha Sauda-Farrukhabad and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib-Kartarpur. The Sikh pilgrims will leave for their homeland on November 13.

Tension still remains between Delhi and Islamabad after the four-day clash caused by the Pahalgam terror attack in May. The two countries have cut off virtually all contacts since May, and they have also banned each other from using their airspace.
