A senior official said that many students had blocked PhD seats in a way. 8-10 years passed, but the research did not progress. In such a situation, seats were not becoming vacant for new students.
limited capacity of guide
In PhD, every student needs a guide for supervision, and every guide has his own limit as to how many students he can handle simultaneously. But when older students remain stuck for years, the capacity for guides becomes full. Many new students had complained that they passed the PhD entrance exam but did not get a guide for one to two years. Due to this his research could not even begin.
Maximum 8 years for PhD
As per UGC guidelines, normally 3 to 6 years are given to complete PhD. If the student re-registers, he can get additional time of 2 years. In this way a student has a maximum time of 8 years.
