“We are restarting the Dhaka-Karachi route with two flights a week,” airline manager Bosra Islam told AFP on Thursday.

“The resumption of direct flights will significantly improve connectivity between Bangladesh and Pakistan, thereby promoting business travel, tourism and family reunions,” Biman Bangladesh Airlines said in a statement.

Passengers traveling between Bangladesh and Pakistan currently have to use connecting flights through major airports in the Gulf countries such as Dubai and Doha. Apart from this, in November 2024, the movement of cargo ships from Karachi to Chittagong, the major port of Bangladesh, started again.

Pak-Bangladesh relations were unstable during Sheikh Hasina’s time

Last month, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, during a meeting with Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus, had expressed hope that direct flights between Karachi and Dhaka would start in January. Let us tell you that relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh always remained unstable when Sheikh Hasina was the Prime Minister. However, after the coup, the friendship between the two countries increased so much that the leaders of Bangladesh are now rejecting the country which gave them independence.
