A massive explosion took place near the District Court in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Tuesday (November 11) afternoon, in which at least 9 people died and 21 were injured. According to initial information, the blast occurred due to the explosion of a gas cylinder kept in a car parked in the parking lot of the court complex.

The sound of the explosion was so loud that it was heard till the Police Lines Headquarters, causing chaos in the surrounding areas. Relief and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and security forces surrounded the entire area. Bomb disposal squad and forensic experts have also been called for preliminary investigation.

Explosion occurred near parked vehicles in the parking lot

According to police officials, the explosion occurred near vehicles parked in the parking lot of the court complex. Due to the blast, many vehicles were damaged and there was a stampede among the people present there. All the injured were immediately admitted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, where their treatment is going on.

Investigation into the cause of the blast continues

Officials say that at present it is not clear whether the explosion was caused by a planted device, cylinder blast or some technical fault. Bomb disposal experts are closely examining the debris of the blast to find out what type of explosion it was.

Security agencies sealed the entire area

After the blast, security has been increased in the court and its surrounding areas. Police have started search operation at all the entry gates. All court proceedings have been stopped for the time being and people have been appealed to stay away from the area.

According to Pakistani media reports, the blast occurred at a time when there was heavy traffic and crowd in the court area. Police suspect that the blast could be part of some bigger conspiracy, although this has not been officially confirmed at present.
