A big update has come out for the youth preparing for government jobs in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has announced the date of Lekhpal Recruitment Examination. Candidates were waiting for the date of this examination for a long time. Now the Commission has made it clear that the main examination for Lekhpal recruitment will be conducted in May 2026. Through this recruitment, thousands of youth will get a chance to get government jobs. This time a large number of candidates are going to appear in the examination, hence the competition is going to be very tough. Those candidates who have been selected for the main examination will now have to strengthen their preparation. The main examination for recruitment to 7996 posts of Lekhpal in Uttar Pradesh will be held on 21 May 2026. The Commission has told that the examination will start from 10 am in the morning and will continue till 12 noon i.e. candidates will be given two hours time. After the announcement of the exam date, now the candidates have started improving their preparation.
There will be tough competition among lakhs of candidates
There is going to be a lot of competition in this recruitment process. The Commission has selected a total of 3.66 lakh candidates to appear in the main examination. With the participation of candidates on such a large scale, it is clear that this time it will not be easy to achieve success in the examination. Therefore, candidates will have to prepare with a better strategy.
Candidates were selected on the basis of PET score.
The 3.66 lakh candidates who have been selected for the main examination have been selected on the basis of preliminary qualifying examination i.e. PET marks. Since the PET exam, candidates were waiting for the date of the main exam. Now after the date is announced, they will have to pay more attention to their studies.
Posts fixed for different categories
In Lekhpal recruitment, different posts have been prescribed for different categories. 3205 posts have been kept for general category. Whereas 2158 posts have been fixed for OBC category. There are 792 posts for Economically Weaker Section (EWS). 1679 posts have been earmarked for Scheduled Caste (SC) and 160 posts for Scheduled Tribe (ST).

Changes made in the syllabus and pattern of the exam
This time the Commission has also made some changes in the syllabus of the examination. Like before, the subject of mathematics is no longer included in the examination. However, Data Interpretation (DI) has been kept, in which 10 questions of 10 marks will be asked. Apart from this, questions related to computer and IT will be of 15 marks, while questions of 20 marks will be asked from General Knowledge of Uttar Pradesh. The weightage of Hindi subject has also been reduced as compared to earlier. Earlier Hindi was of 25 marks, but now it has been reduced to 10 marks. The weightage of questions related to rural society has also been reduced and now only 5 marks questions will be asked.
How will the selection be done and how will the merit list be prepared?
The selection of candidates in this recruitment will be done entirely on the basis of written examination marks. A total of 100 multiple choice questions (MCQ) will be asked in the examination. Besides this, negative marking will also be applicable, that is, marks will be deducted for giving wrong answers. After the examination, the Commission will prepare the merit list on the basis of normalization process.
