The SIT formed in the Codeine cough syrup case in Uttar Pradesh has submitted the report to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to this report, codeine cough syrup is medically banned for children below 12 years of age.

According to the report, the cough syrup medicines are genuine, the whole matter is of illegal diversion and sale. Children in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan died due to fake cough syrup made in Tamil Nadu. The central government is investigating fake cough syrup made in Tamil Nadu. The case of cough syrup of Tamil Nadu is different and confusion spread in UP regarding it.
What are SP’s allegations on codeine?
Raising this issue during Question Hour at the beginning of the Assembly session, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey said, “The issue of codeine has spread like a net in the entire state and it has been going on for a long time, WHO has also taken cognizance of it.”
He alleged that due to its consumption, hundreds of children have lost their lives and business worth thousands of crores of rupees has also been lost. Pandey said, “The government should have known about this earlier. The government has intelligence, the government has intelligence agencies, if they had come to know about this earlier and action had been taken accordingly, the lives of hundreds of children could have been saved.
