Big preparations to make regional jet in India, Adani Group partners with Brazil’s Embraer

Adani Group: Gautam Adani-led company Adani Aerospace is now preparing to manufacture regional jets on a large scale in India. Due to this, the company has partnered with Brazilian aerospace company Embraer. These jets operate on short to medium distance routes and have a seating capacity of 70 to 146 passengers. With this step taken by Adani Group, India will soon join the few countries that have a Final Assembly Line (FAL) for commercial fixed-wing aircraft.

According to a Times of India report, last month Adani Aerospace signed an MoU with Brazilian company Embraer for the FAL, which is the biggest boost for PM Modi’s Make-in-India program in the aviation sector. Details such as the site and investment for the proposed FAL and when it will be operational are not yet known. A formal announcement is expected at the Hyderabad Air Show later this month.

What is a regional jet?

Regional jets are usually used to connect small cities to major airports. Along with Adani Group and Embraer, HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) and NAL (National Aerospace Laboratories) are also working on the indigenous aircraft (RTA-70). India wants to strengthen its aviation sector, hence it is emphasizing on making regional jets because the scope of the country’s aviation sector is increasing and the demand for air travel has started increasing even in small cities. If regional jets are made at the local level, it will help the economy to grow and employment opportunities will increase.

Also keep an eye on engine MRO

Adani Group had said in December last year that it plans to enter the engine MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) and passenger aircraft-to-freighter (P2F) conversion business in the coming time. “We have separated both (aviation). One is airport infrastructure and the other is aircraft services business. This can include dual use, defense and civilian use, so between Indamar and Air Works (MROs), we are now combining the platforms into a single large MRO company,” Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) director Jeet Adani told PTI during an interaction last week.
