Big shock before T-20 Cricket World Cup 2026—Jio Hotstar has given up Indian Cricket Broadcasting Rights of ICC.
The company said it would not be able to continue with the remaining contract through 2027, which was worth more than $3 billion. The ICC will soon seek applications for new rights for the 2026–2029 cycle, which is worth an estimated $2.4 billion.
There were discussions with companies like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Sony Pictures, but at present no one showed much interest. The main reason for Jio Hotstar’s retreat is said to be the ban on Fantasy Gaming Platforms and the loss of ₹7,000 crore in advertising revenue due to this.
