The Broadcasting Minister reportedly said that politics should be kept away from sports, under which there will be no ban on the telecast of the Indian Premier League in Bangladesh.
But now after just 2 days i.e. on Monday, March 30, news came out that a big U-turn was taken on the decision to lift the ban on IPL telecast in Bangladesh. So let us know why the decision was changed within two days.
The report revealed that India’s Jiostar has terminated the agreement to broadcast IPL in Bangladesh. After this, broadcasting the tournament in India’s neighboring country has become almost impossible.
Why did the agreement end?
According to Reuters, Jiostar sent a letter to Bangladeshi broadcaster TSports, saying, “The agreement is terminated with immediate effect. Non-adherence to payment deadlines stipulated in the agreement and default in payment were the reasons for this decision.” Along with this, it was told that this rule also applies to Women’s IPL i.e. Women’s Premier League.
Why was the telecast of IPL banned in Bangladesh?
In the auction held for IPL 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders bought Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman for a price of Rs 9.20 crore. At this time, violent demonstrations were being seen in Bangladesh, in which there were reports of oppression and atrocities on the minority Hindu population there. Seeing this, the protest intensified in India that Bangladeshi players will not play in IPL, it also happened.
On the orders of BCCI, KKR released Mustafizur, after which the Bangladesh government decided to ban the telecast of IPL in their country.
