A BCCI source quoted Hindustan Times said that the board was hoping that Rohit Sharma would retire after the Champions Trophy. The source said, “The truth is that many people on the board thought that Rohit would say goodbye to ODI format after winning the Champions Trophy. There was no discussion with Rohit’s selectors about his future in ODI cricket.”

Team India won the title by defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final of the Champions Trophy. After that historic victory, Rohit Sharma had said about his retirement, “One more thing, I am not retiring from ODI cricket. I want to make everyone clear on retirement, so that no rumor has flew further.”
Rohit Sharma got busy in IPL 2025 after the Champions Trophy 2025. Nobody may have thought that Rohit Sharma will take retirement from Test cricket during the IPL. Rohit concluded his Test career on 7 May 2025. ‘Hitman’ has also retired from T20 in 2024.
