In the ongoing tri-series in Pakistan, Zimbabwe has surprised Sri Lanka by defeating it by 67 runs. This was the second match of the tri-series, in which the Zimbabwean team, playing first, had scored 162 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, but in response, the Sri Lankan team got bundled out for only 95 runs. Captain Sikandar Raza was adjudged man of the match for his impressive performance of scoring 47 runs and taking one wicket.
Zimbabwe lost by 5 wickets in the first match of the tri-series. This time Zimbabwe’s batsmen and bowlers left no stone unturned to defeat Sri Lanka in every field. Opener Brian Bennett played an inning of 49 runs, on the other hand, captain Sikandar Raza played an inning of 47 runs in 32 balls. Zimbabwe could have scored up to 175-180, but in the last 3 overs, Zimbabwe could score only 21 runs and during this time they lost 3 wickets at consecutive intervals.
While chasing the target of 163 runs, the condition of Sri Lanka was so bad that by the score of 29 they had 4 wickets and half the team had returned to the pavilion by the score of 52. Dasun Shanaka, who was captaining in the absence of Charith Asalanka, scored 34 runs in 25 balls, while Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 11 runs. Apart from these two batsmen, no other Sri Lankan player could touch double figures in terms of runs. However, Sri Lanka may not suffer much loss in terms of net run rate in the points table, because it batted the entire 20 overs.
Zimbabwe has come first in the points table of the tri-series, with 2 points and a net run-rate of +1.471. On the other hand, Pakistan also has 2 points, but its net run-rate is +0.460.
