Voting is to be held on 121 seats in the first phase of Bihar assembly elections on Wednesday (6 November 2025). In the first phase, the fate of 1314 candidates is to be decided on 121 seats in 18 districts, out of which 122 are women candidates. The litmus test for 16 ministers of the Nitish government is to be held in the first phase of elections.
How many candidates are trying their luck?
According to the report of election monitoring organization Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), a total of 2,616 candidates are in the fray for 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Of these, about 838 candidates (32 percent) have declared criminal cases. About 695 candidates have serious criminal cases registered against them. Cases of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women are registered against these candidates.
Of the 121 seats on which elections are being held in the first phase, RJD had won the maximum 42 seats, while BJP had won 32 seats. Apart from this, 7 MLAs from ML, four from VIP, two each from CPI and CPM and one from JDU won.
How many parties are contesting elections in Bihar?
This time in Bihar elections, BJP, JDU, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) are in the fray from NDA. Talking about the grand alliance, candidates from RJD, Congress, VIP, CPI (ML), CPI, CPIM are in the electoral fray.
Apart from this, Mayawati’s party BSP, Owaisi’s party AIMIM, Om Prakash Rajbhar’s party Subhaspa, Tej Pratap’s party Janashakti Janata Dal, Chandrashekhar’s party Azad Samaj Party Kanshiram, Prashant Kishore’s Jansuraj Party are in the electoral fray.
Tough competition between whom?
Mokama of Bihar is being considered the hottest seat in this time’s assembly elections. After the murder of Dularchand Yadav, the entire country is keeping an eye on this seat. On the charges of Dularchand, JDU leader and former MLA Anant Singh has been sent to Beur jail for 14 days judicial custody. Whose Union Minister Lalan Singh took over the responsibility of campaigning for Anant Singh here and asked for votes from the people. RJD has given ticket to Veena Devi, wife of Eastern MP and strongman Surajbhan Singh, from this seat, due to which there may be a close contest here.
Close contest on Lakhisarai seat
Apart from this, a close contest is expected on Lakhisarai seat. Vijay Kumar Sinha has been MLA from here four times and currently he is the Deputy CM of Bihar. His competition is against Amresh Kumar of Congress and Suraj Kumar of Jan Suraj Party. Raghunathpur seat is also in the headlines, where Osama Shahab, son of late Bahubali leader Mohammad Shahabuddin, is in the election field. Here JDU’s Vikas Kumar Singh is contesting from NDA.
This time in Bihar elections, the temperature is at its peak on 10 seats. Samrat Chaudhary’s litmus test will be held on Tarapur assembly seat. Here he is considered to have a direct contest with RJD candidate Arun Kumar Sah. Tejashwi Yadav will have the challenge of scoring a hat-trick in Raghopur. In front of him will be Satish Yadav from NDA. Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh’s wife Jyoti Singh is contesting from Karakat. This seat has been a topic of discussion since the beginning.
Transgender woman Preeti Kinnar is contesting from Jan Suraj Party from Bhore seat of Gopalganj. Here former JNU Students Union president Dhananjay is contesting from Education Minister Sunil Kumar. RJD’s Vinod Mishra is in the fray against folk singer Maithili Thakur from Alinagar seat. It is believed that there could be a close contest between the two.
All eyes on Chhapra and Mahua seats
Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav is contesting elections from Chapra on RJD ticket. Here his competition is with Chhoti Kumari of BJP. Mahua assembly seat has become a tough battle for the Lalu family since the beginning. Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting from here and RJD MLA Mukesh Roshan is contesting from here. Tejashwi Yadav has also come to Mahua to campaign for Mukesh Roshan.
The fate of these big faces is at stake
In the first phase, voting is to be held in Madhepura, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Patna and Bhojpur districts. Among these, the fate of Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha and Tejashwi Yadav will also be at stake. Apart from this, the fate of folk singer Maithili Thakur, Shatrughan Kumar alias Khesari Lal Yadav, former IPS officer Anand Mishra, Osama Shahab, son of former Siwan MP Shahabuddin, Karishma Rai, granddaughter of former Parsa CM Daroga Rai, is also to be decided on November 6.
The main contest in this election is believed to be between the NDA led by Nitish Kumar and the grand alliance led by Tejashwi Yadav. However, in many areas, candidates of Jan Suraj and AIMIM are also making full efforts.
