Bihar government has decided to promote 31 officers of the Indian Police Service (IPS). This includes IPS officers of different batches, whose new appointments will be effective from January 1, 2026. This decision was taken on 23 December.

The objective of this decision is to strengthen the leadership in the police administration and fill the vacant posts at the senior level. The Home Department has issued an official notification in this regard. Important administrative changes in the state police structure are considered certain.

IPS officer Kundan Krishnan will become Director General of Police

According to the notification issued, 1994 batch IPS officer Kundan Krishnan has been promoted from the post of Additional Director General of Police and appointed as Director General of Police. He has been given the responsibility of DGP, which is considered the highest post of the state police. This promotion has been done on the basis of seniority and administrative experience.

8 IPS of 2008 were also promoted

Apart from this, eight IPS officers of 2008 batch have been promoted from Deputy Inspector General to Inspector General of Police. These include Kim, Nitasha Guria, Satyaveer Singh, Upendra Kumar Sharma, Vikas Burman and Manoj Kumar and other officers. According to PTI, it has been clarified in the notification that Vikas Barman is currently on central deputation. Three DIG rank officers of the same batch have also been made IG, which include STF DIG Vivekananda, Saharsa Range DIG Manoj Kumar and Sanjay Kumar.

22 IPS of 2012 were also promoted

According to the notification, 22 IPS officers of the year 2012 batch have been promoted to the post of Deputy Inspector General. These officers also include Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Anand Kumar and Saran Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish. All 22 officers have been promoted to DIG rank. These promotions are expected to provide additional experience and leadership to the police administration at the district and range level, which will make law and order more effective.
