A news came from Sitamarhi in Bihar that the situation regarding the number of HIV patients here is quite frightening. After the news ran in the media, now a clarification has been given by the Bihar State AIDS Control Committee on Thursday (December 11, 2025). It has been described as completely confusing and factual. The committee says that the figures being presented are completely beyond the actual situation.
Many patients died…some were treated in another city
According to the committee, ICTC (HIV Testing and Counseling Center) in Sitamarhi district was started in the year 2005 and ART (Anti Retro Viral Therapy) center was established on December 1, 2012. From the year 2005 till now i.e. in the last 20 years, a total of about 6900 patients have been registered. Many of these patients have died, some have shifted to other districts, while some are continuing their treatment in other cities.
Stating that the current number of patients is 6900 is beyond the facts.
The committee clarified that at present 4958 patients are taking ARV medicines regularly in the ART center of Sitamarhi. Only 200 new patients have been identified till October in the year 2025-26. The committee said that citing the current number of 6900 patients is completely beyond the facts, as this is the total consolidated data of two decades.
So far only 188 children have been found infected
The claim of increasing number of patients every day has also been termed as misleading. It was said that every day only those old registered patients reach the hospitals who come for their regular medicines or consultation. Regarding infection in children, the committee informed that till now only 188 children have been found infected and all of them are undergoing regular treatment.
