The last date of nomination for the second phase of Bihar Assembly elections has passed, but no final decision has been taken on the distribution of seats in the Grand Alliance (INDIA Block). Differences between Congress, RJD (RJD), Left parties and Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) are coming to the fore. Its effect is that in the upcoming elections only Grand Alliance candidates will fight face to face on at least 11 seats, which is now being called a ‘friendly fight’.
‘Saathi’ will face each other on 11 seats
The seats where there is a possibility of conflict within the Grand Alliance include Narkatiaganj, Vaishali, Raja Pakar (SC), Bachhwara, Bihasharif, Rosra, Lalganj, Tarapur, Kahalgaon, Champur and Pipra. On these seats, Congress vs RJD or Congress vs Left party candidates will be face to face.
Narkatiaganj: Congress’s Shashwat Kedar Pandey vs RJD’s Deepak Yadav
Bachhwara: Congress’s Prakash Das vs CPI’s Avadhesh Rai
Vaishali: Sanjeev Singh of Congress vs Ajay Kushwaha of RJD
This kind of ‘friendly fight’ can prove to be a new challenge for both the voters and the party.
Controversy over seat sharing in Grand Alliance
The list of candidates so far in 243 assembly seats of Bihar is as follows:
RJD: 143 candidates, Congress: 60 candidates, CPI: 9 candidates, CPI(M): 4 candidates. CPI(ML) Liberation: 20 candidates, VIP: 15 candidates.
RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said that since RJD is the largest party in the state, it has the right to contest elections on maximum seats. He appealed to the allies to withdraw their candidates from those seats where RJD has already fielded candidates.
Congress spokesperson Asit Tiwari said that his party has always followed the coalition dharma. He expressed hope that ‘this dispute will be resolved in a day or two.’ He also said that RJD and Left parties released the list of their candidates after the Congress list was declared.
NDA’s taunt on discord in opposition
Meanwhile, LJP (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan said that he has never seen such a big alliance on the verge of breaking. He said, ‘There is no such thing as ‘friendly fight’ in elections. If the Grand Alliance thinks that it will get benefit by fielding multiple candidates from the same seat, then they are delusional. They even gave us walkover on many seats.
election dates
Bihar assembly elections will be held in two phases – 6 and 11 November. The results will be announced on 14 November. Although the last date of nomination has passed, there is still no consensus on seat sharing in the grand alliance, and on many seats the partners will become rivals.
