Many rivers are in spate due to torrential rains in Bihar in the last 24 hours and more than 17 lakh people have been affected by the flood. Officials gave this information on Monday (August 11, 2025). It was told that a total of 32 teams of NDRF and SDRF have been deployed for relief and rescue operations.

In this regard, an official said, “Bhojpur, Patna, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Lakhisarai, Saran, Munger, Khagaria, Supaul and Begusarai are in spate rivers and drains in various districts including continuous rains. Apart from heavy rains in Nepal, the water level of rivers in many places is above danger mark.”

The water level of which rivers increased in Bihar?

The State Disaster Management Department said in a statement, “The water level of Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati, Budhi Gandak, Punpun and Ghaghra rivers has increased due to the rains in the last few days. These rivers are flowing above the danger mark at some places in Bhojpur, Patna, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Lakhisarai, Saran, Munger, Khagaria, Supaul and Begusarai districts.” The department said that 17,62,374 people from 1,144 villages of 10 districts in the state are affected by floods and about 1,160 boats have been installed for rescue operations in the affected areas.

The statement said that there is no news of anyone’s death from any part of Bihar so far. Santosh Kumar Mall, Principal Secretary of Water Resources Department (WRD), told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “In view of the continuous increase in the water level of many rivers in Bihar and heavy rains in the catchment areas of Gandak and Kosi rivers in Nepal, all the related cells of the Water Resources Department have been instructed to stay on alert mode.”

How many people affected in which district?

He said, “Instructions have also been issued to the concerned districts to be fully prepared for the arrangement of more relief camps and community kitchens when the situation deteriorated.” Talking about different districts, a total of 4,16,801 people in 343 villages of Bhagalpur district have been affected by floods, 3,15,596 people in 187 villages in Begusarai, 2,55,926 people in 168 villages in Bhojpur, 2,50,700 people in 218 villages in Munger, 2,28,000 people in Vaishali, 2,28,000 in Vaishali, 62 villages in 76 villages, 62 villages in Vaishali in 62 villages, 62 villages in Vaishali in 62 villages, 62 villages in Vaishali, 62 villages in Vaishali in 62 villages in Khagadia, 1,40,373 people, 1,00,858 people in 78 villages in Patna and 42,170 people have been affected by floods in Saran district.

It said that despite the continuous rains, Bihar recorded 507.4 mm rainfall between August 1 to 10, which is 12 percent less than the normal average of this time period.
