In today’s time, farmers are looking for new avenues to increase their income along with traditional farming. In this direction, the Bihar government has launched a great scheme, which is named ‘Diversification Scheme of Matsya species’. The purpose of this scheme is to encourage farmers towards fisheries, so that they can use farming as well as water sources better and can earn more.

Under this scheme, the Department of Animal and Fisheries Resources of the Government of Bihar is promoting the adherence to the fish of indigenous species. The special thing is that in this scheme, farmers are being given subsidy of up to 60 percent on the cost of hatchery and rearing units.

Who will get the benefit?

The farmers of the state can take advantage of this scheme, who have land available for ponds or fisheries, whether private or lease. In the scheme, farmers of all classes are considered eligible, provided they meet the set standards.

What is the purpose of the scheme?

The Bihar government wants that fish production should be increased by better use of the water wealth of the state. For this, hatchery and rearing units of desi fish species like Catfish, Minor Corp will be set up. This will not only increase the supply of fish but will also double the income of farmers.

How much will you get subsidy?

According to the information issued by the Department of Fisheries, all eligible beneficiaries will get 60 percent grant on the cost of hatchery or rearing unit. The remaining amount can be raised through the farmer himself or through a bank loan.

  • CAT Fish Hatchery Installation (Unit Cost: 15.37 Lakh)
  • Minor Corp Husbandry Unit (Unit Cost: 94 thousand)
  • CAT Fish Having Unit (Unit Cost: 1.35 Lakh)

application procedure

Farmers can apply in online mode. For this, the form has to be filled by going to the state.bihar.gov.in portal. Along with the application, photo, Aadhaar card, land related documents and if the expenses are high, then self -proclaimed letter will also have to be submitted. The last date for application is 31 August 2025.
