Marriage in jail on the order of the court is a rare incident, but it is possible. As was held in Siwan district of Bihar in March 2025, where a case of forcibly driving a young man was registered and on the court’s order, he had to marry his girlfriend according to Hindu customs amid security in jail. Such orders are given when the lover-girlfriend decides to live together and the court can order a marriage to ensure that their relationship is based on mutual consent.
