Preparations for Bihar assembly elections have gained momentum. Meanwhile, under the special intensive revision (SIR), there has been a large number of objections in the voter list. According to the Election Commission, so far 2,27,636 voters have registered objections and claims on entries in the draft voter list. Of these, 29,872 applications have been given to add new names and 1,97,764 applications have been given to remove the names from the voter list.

13,33,793 youth filled Form-6 to add name

The Commission has submitted 33,771 applications in the last 7 days. The most encouraging signs in this process are coming from voters who vote for the first time. In August itself, 13,33,793 youth have applied to add their names to the voter list under Form-6.

According to an Election Commission official, this number shows that the youth have a keen interest to participate in the democratic process. If all applications are approved, then 13 lakh new names will be added to the voter list this year. The Commission also informed that 61,248 applications related to it have been settled in the last 7 days.

The commission report also states that booth level agents (BLA) appointed by political parties have also contributed significantly. 1,60,813 BLA of 12 political parties in the state is actively assisting voters. Of these, the BLA of CPI (ML) filed the highest number of 118 claims and objections, while RJD agents submitted 10 forms till Saturday.

CPI (ML) filed 118 claims

15 applications in 118 claims and objections filed through CPI (ML) were to add new names and 103 to remove the names from the application list. Officials said that the efforts of political parties, voters and commission are helping to make this revision process transparent and flawless.

Earlier, more than 65 lakh names were removed from the list under the SIR campaign, including illegal or duplicate entries. The last date for filing claims and objections is 31 August.
