Bijapur News: Fierce encounter on the banks of Indravati in Bijapur, security forces killed 2 Maoists

After receiving information about the presence of Maoists in the Indravati river area of ​​Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday (February 26), security forces launched a major operation. As soon as the information was received, various joint security teams set out on an anti-Naxal operation. In which a fierce encounter started on Thursday morning between security forces and Maoists in the dense forests on the banks of Indravati river. After intense firing from both sides, a search operation was conducted in the area.

Bodies of two Maoists wearing uniform were recovered at the spot.

Bijapur Superintendent of Police Dr. Jitendra Yadav said that after the encounter, when the soldiers searched the spot, bodies of two Maoists in uniform were recovered from there. Along with this, deadly weapons like SLR rifle, INSAS rifle and 12 bore rifle, explosive materials and other Naxalite items have also been recovered from the encounter site. Inspector General of Police, Bastar Range, Sundarraj Pattalingam informed that an intensive search operation is currently going on in the entire area, so that any other hidden Maoist can be searched.

A senior police officer said that on Thursday morning, suddenly sounds of firing were heard in the forest situated on the banks of Indravati river, after which the team of joint security forces took up the position. The recovery of a huge amount of weapons and material after the encounter indicates that the Maoists were planning a major attack.

Central government has given target till 31st March to kill Maoists

The central government has set a target to kill the Maoists by March 31 this year. With today’s action, about 25 Maoists have been killed in different encounters so far in the year 2026. Earlier on January 3, 14 Maoists were killed in an encounter in Bastar region. Last year, a total of 285 Maoists were killed during various operations in Chhattisgarh, which shows the intensity of the anti-Naxal operation in the state.
