Ccpa slaps penalty on rapido: The misleading advertisement of bike taxi service Rapido has caused huge damage to the company. Actually, the company was showing this message to the customers – “50 rupees if the auto is not found in five minutes”. But the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has a penalty of Rs 10 lakh on Rapido, considering this claim as a false and misleader.
The Consumer Ministry said on Thursday that the CCPA has ordered Rapido to return an amount of Rs 50 to all the customers who did not get this amount despite the offer.
Not only 50 rupees, only Rapido Coin
Investigation revealed that this claim of Rapido was not actually cash of Rs 50, but was “Rapido Coins up to Rs 50”. They could only be used in bike rides and their validity was only 7 days. In this way consumers were forced to use Rapido’s service again in a short time.
Open polls with increasing complaints
According to data from the National Consumer Helpline, the complaints against Rapido increased to 1,224 between June 2024 and July 2025. Whereas in the earlier 14 months, this number was only 575. The CCPA investigation found that the disclaimers given in advertisements were in such a small letters that it was difficult for customers to read. Obviously, the company deliberately tried to hide the terms and conditions.
Order to stop advertising immediately
The ministry said in its statement, “Such sanctions reduced the importance of the offer and misled consumers.” On this basis, CCPA has instructed Rapido to stop misleading advertisements immediately. The lesson for the common consumers in this is that they must read its conditions and disclaimers before accepting any offer. Also, understand the difference between “cash” and “voucher” – sometimes companies give coupons, points or coins, not cash money, whose validity is limited ..
