Controversy is increasing regarding the new rules of the University Grants Commission i.e. UGC. In this sequence, a sharp reaction has come from BJP MLA from Gonda Prateek Bhushan Sharan Singh. Prateek described these as ‘double standards of history’ and said that efforts are being made to continuously target a section as historical criminals.
Prateek Bhushan has raised questions on these rules by posting on his social media account X. He wrote – ‘There should now be a deep discussion on the double standards of history where the horrific atrocities of external invaders and colonial powers are forgotten as ‘a thing of the past’, while a section of the Indian society is being continuously identified as ‘historical criminals’ and is being made the target of vengeance in the present.’
Ruckus over new rules of UGC
Actually, UGC has implemented a new rule from January 13, which has been named Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institution Regulation 2026. This rule has been brought to prevent caste discrimination in colleges and universities. Under this, an Equal Opportunity Center will have to be created in every institution, which will resolve complaints related to discrimination. In these, SC/ST and other backward classes have been defined as oppressed classes.
Dissatisfaction over rules among upper castes
These new rules of UGC are being strongly opposed. There is resentment regarding this especially among the upper castes. He says that his allegations can be used against the general class. Different organizations are calling it against the basic spirit of the Constitution, while some people are comparing it with the SC/ST Act.
The controversy regarding these rules increased further when Bareilly SDM Alankar Agnihotri resigned from his post in protest against these rules. At the same time, dissatisfaction is being seen among many BJP leaders regarding these rules. After which this matter has gained momentum.
