BJP RG gives ticket to rape victim’s mother for Bengal elections, third list of 19 candidates released

Election activities have intensified for the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. On Wednesday (25 March), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released the third list of candidates. Names of 19 candidates are included in the list. BJP has made Ratna Debnath, mother of the rape and murder victim of RG Kar Medical College, its candidate from Panihati seat. Earlier, the party had announced the names of 144 candidates in the first list and 111 candidates in the second list.

BJP released third list of 19 candidates

BJP has given ticket to Rathindra Nath Bose from Cooch Behar South, Dinesh Sarkar (Haradhan Sarkar) from Rajganj (SC), Chitrajit Roy from Islampur, Haripad Burman from Hemtabad (SC), Amlan Bhaduri from English Bazar, Swapan Das from Shantipur, Ratna Debnath from Pani Hati. Apart from this, Biplab Mandal has been made the candidate from Howrah Central and Deepanjan Chakraborty from Uttarpara.

111 candidates were announced in the second list

Let us tell you that before this, BJP has announced the names of 111 candidates for West Bengal elections. The party has made Roopa Ganguly its candidate from Sonarpur South seat. Apart from this, former Union Minister of State for Home Nishith Pramanik was given ticket from Mathabhanga (SC). The party nominated Dadhiram Roy from Mekliganj, Laxman Limbu from Madarihat, Naresh Chandra Roy from Dhupguri, Kaushik Roy from Maynaguri, Anant Deb Adhikari from Jalpaiguri, Noman Rai from Darjeeling, Sabita Burman from Itahar, Sunil Chaudhary from Farakka, Chitto Mukherjee from Jangipur, Rana Pratap Singh Roy from Rani Nagar.

There were 144 candidates in the first list

BJP had announced 144 names in the first list of candidates while 111 candidates were included in the second list. BJP has given ticket to Shubhendu Adhikari from Nandigram and Bhawanipur. CM Mamata Banerjee will contest elections from Bhawanipur seat.

When will elections be held in West Bengal?

Voting will be held in two phases in West Bengal. Voting will be held in the first phase on 23 April and for the second phase on 29 April. Notification for the first phase of elections will be issued on March 30. Nominations can be withdrawn till April 9. Voting for the first phase will take place on April 23. Notification for the second phase will be issued on April 2. Withdrawal of nominations can be done till 13th April. Apart from this, the second phase of voting will take place on April 29. Results will come on 4th May 2026.
