BMC Budget 2026 Live Updates: The budget of the Education Committee was first presented in the budget of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation i.e. BMC, in which the total education budget of Mumbai is proposed to be Rs 4,248.08 crore for the year 2026-27. The budget estimate of revenue income and expenditure for the financial year 2026-27 has been kept at Rs 3,758.08 crore, while a provision of Rs 490 crore has been made for capital works. The revenue budget for the year 2025-26 under Budget ‘E’ fund code 30 was Rs 3,544.34 crore, which is proposed to be increased to Rs 3,758.08 crore in 2026-27. There was a provision of Rs 1,411.30 crore in the capital budget for 2025-26, the revised estimate of which was Rs 1,386.78 crore, and Rs 1,490 crore has been proposed for capital works for 2026-27.
Many welfare schemes under the Education Committee will continue in 2026-27 also. The tender process has been started to provide free school supplies to the students, for which a provision of Rs 150.57 crore has been made at the primary level and Rs 37 crore at the secondary level. 7,953 classrooms of 1,203 municipal schools will be converted into digital classrooms through LEDs in a phased manner, for which Rs 23.38 crore has been earmarked for primary and Rs 1.08 crore for secondary. Students from classes 1 to 10 are being provided free travel facility through BEST buses and special bus services are being run on routes where there is no regular service; For this scheme, there is a provision of Rs 6 crore in primary and Rs 12.70 crore in secondary.
Additionally, keeping in mind holistic development under the National Education Policy 2020, Mission SAMPURN is already implemented and now Mission SAFAL will be launched in 2026-27, with emphasis on physical fitness, scout-guide activities, music, arts and work-experience based learning. Also, under the ‘Girls Attendance Allowance’ scheme, fixed deposit certificates are being given to girl students from classes 1 to 8; For this, a provision of Rs 5 crore has been made in primary and Rs 26 lakh in secondary. The general budget will also be presented at 2 pm.
