The result of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is to be declared on Friday (January 16, 2026). Earlier, information about crorepati candidates has come to light from the affidavits filed by the candidates in the elections. Talking about the richest candidates in BMC elections, the first name that comes up is Makrand Narvekar, who is a BJP leader and brother of Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar. 47-year-old Makarand Narvekar has been a two-time corporator and is a lawyer by profession. According to his affidavit, he has declared assets worth Rs 124 crore. If compared with previous years, there is a tremendous increase in his wealth.

Makrand Narvekar’s assets were worth Rs 3.67 crore in the year 2012. It increased to Rs 6.32 crore in the year 2017 and Rs 124 crore in the year 2026. It has also been revealed in the affidavit that Makrand Narvekar purchased 27 pieces of land in Alibaug between October 2022 and November 2025. He says that due to big infrastructure projects like Atal Setu (Mumbai Trans Harbor Link) and Ro-Ro ferry service, there has been a huge increase in the prices of these properties.

35 percent candidates are millionaires

Makrand Narvekar is not alone. About 35 percent of the candidates in BMC elections are crorepatis. In this, the candidate from Ward 225 is Harshita Narvekar. His declared assets are Rs 63.62 crore. In the year 2017 this figure was Rs 10.74 crore. Harshita is the sister-in-law of Makrand Narvekar. The name of Samajwadi Party candidate from Kalina, Sana Abbas Qureshi, is also in this list, whose declared assets are Rs 60.3 crore. She is among the richest women candidates of BMC elections. Samadhan Sarvankar, son of former MLA Sada Sarvankar is also in the list of crorepati candidates. His declared assets are Rs 46.59 crore, which was Rs 9.43 crore in the year 2017. The declared total assets of former mayor Kishori Pednekar is Rs 5 crore 26 lakh. In the year 2017, there were assets worth Rs 1 crore 61 lakh 53 thousand. That means his wealth has increased by approximately Rs 3.65 crore in about 8 years. In this way, his wealth has increased by more than Rs 7 crore. Yamini Jadhav (ward number 209) has assets worth Rs 14 crore 57 lakh.

Property of former Shiv Sena mayor

Priya Saravankar is the candidate from Dadar Shivaji Park, whose declared assets are Rs 12.16 crore. The declared assets of former Shiv Sena Mayor Shraddha Jadhav are Rs 46.34 crore. She was the Mayor of Mumbai from 2009 to 2012. While on one hand there are candidates with assets worth crores, on the other hand there are some people whose assets are very limited, but their morale is high. In this, the name of independent candidate from Bandra, Ashok Gupta, who sells paan by profession. His declared assets were Rs 1.6 crore, which included SRA house, savings and wife’s jewellery.
