The ongoing tension between Israel and Hamas has increased once again. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday ordered the army to launch immediate and powerful attacks on the Gaza Strip. This decision came when Netanyahu accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire imposed by America. According to the statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu gave these instructions after a meeting with security advisors.
Hamas accused of breaking the ceasefire
The Israeli army claimed that Hamas opened fire in southern Gaza, after which Netanyahu ordered this action. The dispute escalated when Hamas returned the partial remains of a hostage, which Israel had already recovered two years earlier. Netanyahu’s office called it a clear violation of the agreement.
Controversy over handing over remains of hostages
Hamas said on Monday that it had handed over the body of the 16th hostage out of 28, but an Israeli investigation found that these were the remains of a previously returned hostage. After this, Netanyahu took a tough stance and said that Hamas is not following the agreement.

Minutes after Netanyahu ordered the attack, Hamas’s armed group al-Qassam Brigades issued a statement saying it was postponing the process of handing over the hostage’s body scheduled for Tuesday evening because Israel had violated the terms of the ceasefire. The group warned that if Israel continued attacks, it could hamper the process of searching and recovering bodies.
The US-brokered ceasefire was meant to stop hostilities between Israel and Gaza, but both sides are accusing each other of violations, which has once again increased tensions in the region. The Prime Minister’s Office said the PM will hold security discussions with the heads of the Israeli security establishment to decide on further steps in response to Netanyahu’s violations.
